'making the most of it' - Peter Bassett

Peter Bassett joined the RAF at the start of the War, after the Navy - his first choice - was over subscribed,
at first he was resticted to serving as ground crew after failing an eye test. After then 'succeeding' with a further
eye test, Peter joined the Coastal Command Strike Wing in Wick, Northern Scotland. Flying as a Navigator
in Beaufighters with a Canadian squadron. These strike Wings attacked the heavily defended and seemingly
invulnerable convoys that bought Germany's vital supplies of iron ore down to the facories of the Ruhr.

Peter then went on to serve with the same squadron in Cornwall, helping with the D-Day invasions.

What follows is a very Personal account of a young man at War.
