The river Barrow is one of a trio of waterways forming part of similar and quintessentially rich Irish valley landscapes. Located in the south-east, their source is in the Slieve Bloom mountain range to the west of the region. The sister rivers are the Nore and the Suir. These fine waterways flow south to form an estuary into the Atlantic Ocean on the southern coast of Ireland.
As the river Barrow flows south it drains a very fertile landscape known as the Golden Valley. If you look at the valley in Autumn, it is a golden carpet of grain.
