The Song Rooms
A ground-breaking online music-making project which enables marginalised children and young people with terminal illness to make music and upload it to a website where others can share the pool of sounds and add to it.
The project will provide an environment where terminally ill children can upload their tracks to a specially designed website, where others can share and add to the pool of sounds. This enables terminally ill children to collaborate and communicate with peers in a safe arena.
www.thesongrooms.org focuses on the attraction of the digital world to engage children who might normally be excluded from this common youth language. We have undertaken a pilot project at Richard House Hospice, east London, where the children have been consulted at all stages. Kay Carpenter, Play Therapist, says
"The pilot project has an amazing impact on children’s self-esteem… A lot of children are disempowered by their condition and have a lot of choices taken away from them, so for [children] to be able to do something of this magnitude and perform with a professional musician is amazing."
