Exhibitions: Piering in

image of fish and chips from Piering In exhibition

On the 17th of October 2005 a group of St Barnabas Hospice users went to Palace Pier to take part in a digital photography workshop. The workshop, run by Victoria Jackson the Rosetta Life artist at St Barnabas Hospice, resulted in the creation of the photographs currently on display in a touring exhibition around Sussex. Despite the fact that many of the participants had limited photographic experience each member of the group has produced work that reflects a humorous observation of British seaside culture comparable with that of the photographer Martin Parr. The members of this group have varied ages and backgrounds which have allowed them to demonstrated unique responses to the theme of the workshop; whilst the photographs have the potential to resonate with anyone who has visited a British seaside resort. Barclays Bank plc has sponsored this photographic project from the initial workshop to the printing and exhibition of the work. Branch managers Chris Bick (Worthing) and Paul Cronin (Shoreham) joined the group as volunteers on Brighton Pier and helped select the work which went into the exhibition.
