This album is the result of three years’ work that began in a small studio in Waterloo under inauspicious circumstances on the day after the London bombings of 7/7. Roots Manuva brought three musicians together to help a young teenager record a track that offered hope to all sick children spending time in hospital. The process convinced us that children living through extraordinary experiences could be supported to make extraordinary tracks, and, with the right support of professional musicians could lead the performance of those tracks by themselves. We are grateful to that teenager, Geospin Kiakia and to Roots Manuva for offering the inspiration for the project, The Song Rooms.

Leading British photographer TOM HUNTER worked in partnership with Lucinda Jarrett, artistic director Rosetta Life, and St Joseph’s Hospice service users to explore how the most frail and vulnerable members of our community are living at home at the end of their lives. Five digital films that were animated from a series of five portraits were screened as a series of special education event at the Geffrye Museum to make a significant contribution to the debate about how people are living with terminal illness in the 21st century. The films were accompanied by the five portraits that were exhibited at the museum.

The Art of Touch is a new education programme proposed by Rosetta Life in collaboration with the Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance, London. Supported by Guys and St Thomas Charitable Foundation, The Art of Touch will train postgraduate dancers and place them in residence in hospices and nursing homes across South London. We aim to develop a new specialism within the dementia and End Of Life Care workforce, facilitating partnerships between movement artists, residents and patients as well as developing the skills of current health care staff.

This work takes the learning and its inspiration from the Moving into Being program we have been delivering across West Midlands since 2009. Rosetta Life aims to roll out this model of working nationally from 2012.

For education and training enquiries please contact: Lucinda.Jarrett@rosettalife.org
