The Songrooms was a musical performance project linking children’s hospices in South Africa, Zimbabwe and England. The project was supported by lyric and musical workshops and a series of live concerts for children across the UK. The project was a direct response to the shortage of opportunities for children and teenagers with terminal illnesses to communicate with their peer group both within and outside the hospice/hospital setting. It led to the production of an album entitled Tracks for Life sponsored by an independent record company.
“I wanted [the song] to be for everyone not just ill people, so everyone knows that their problems can’t be that bad and not to give it up….. The song has made me more confident.”
15 year old patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital who took part in a pilot project.
